My friend Tomas Varaneckas noticed interesting google trends in his blog post “The Death of Software Development“.
So what do you think? Why do we see “loss of interest” in software development?
I think that Google, other free services and Open Source are to be “blamed” for this.
Search results for: “google services”
So my answer is no, software development is here to stay, it’s just shifting to Open Source and free services.
Good point, this seems a really logical explanation.
You may take a look at “Open Source” chart.
It is reasonable explanation but…
There is worldwide problem with development in general. Universities do not prepare enough students for IT infrastructure. Being developer is a hard work which requires to study the whole life. Also it is expensive for investors. Web bubble has already exploded and the attractiveness of the whole development has fallen down. Everybody is looking for outsourcing now. It is good that we have India but what happens when it wouldn’t serve our needs. I think it is future problem under these simple charts :)
